Facts About North Carolina Colony. High Point is known as the Furniture Capital of the World. It was one of the five Southern colonies and one of the thirteen American colonies. The North Carolina Colony and the South Carolina Colony were established at the same time. The South Carolina and North Carolina colonies originally were part of one colony called the Carolina Colony.
In 1712 Carolina was divided into two separate colonies North and South. The Carolina Colony later the North Carolina Colony was founded in 1653 and in 1663 eight nobleman referred to as the Lord Proprietors were granted the rights to the colony by King Charles II. North Carolina and South Carolina were both one colony Carolina named by King Charles II in honor of his father Charles I. In 1663 King Charles I of England annulled a previous charter and gave a new charter as a gift to eight English noblemen who had supported his rise to the throne. From 1712-1729 North Carolina remained a Proprietary Colony which meant its people answered mostly to Lord Proprietor. The North Carolina colony was carved out of the Carolina province in 1729 but the history of the region begins during the Elizabethan period of the late 16th century and is closely tied to the Virginia colony.
The first attempted settlement in the Carolinas was Roanoke colony which ended with the colonists disappearing.
Miniature Golf was born in North Carolina. The colony was set up as a proprietary settlement and governed by a group known as Carolinas Lords Proprietors. In 1753 members of the Moravian Church arrived in Central North Carolina in 1766 they began work on a town. In 1712 Carolina was divided into two separate colonies North and South. In the colonys first fifty years North Carolinas settlers faced corrupt officials violent rebellion. One of the original 13 colonies North Carolina was the first state to instruct its delegates to vote for independence from the British crown during the Continental Congress.
